Washington NASA Space Grant Community College Transfer Scholarships are awarded to promising community college students planning to transfer to the University of Washington to continue their studies in science, technology, engineering or mathematics.
These competitive scholarships are based on academic achievement, personal essays, recommendations and future academic promise.
Applications are open to community college transfer students who will be entering the University of Washington in Autumn Quarter 2019. Community college transfer students who entered UW in Winter or Spring Quarter of 2019 are also eligible to apply.
Scholarships range from $2,000 to $5,000, and are awarded for one year at a time. Recipients may apply for renewal for an additional year, depending on availability of funding and providing that they maintain program requirements for their majors and a satisfactory GPA.
Eligibility requirements
To be eligible, scholarship applicants must:
- Be a resident of Washington state
- Be a U.S. citizen
- Have a minimum GPA of 3.3
- Have applied to transfer to UW in Autumn Quarter 2019 or transferred into UW either Winter or Spring Quarter 2019
- Be pursuing an undergraduate degree in science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM)
Scholarship applications are open to STEM majors planning to transfer to any of the University of Washington’s three campuses (Seattle, Bothell, or Tacoma). Click here to see a list of all majors offered by UW Seattle; separate lists are available for UW Bothell and UW Tacoma.
Only students majoring in the fields of science, technology, engineering or mathematics are eligible for support. This does not include health majors such as medical technology and nursing.

How we review applications
Washington NASA Space Grant Consortium uses a holistic review approach to evaluate applications. Your entire application, including your essays and extracurricular activities, is important in this individualized application review. We encourage you to use your application to share with us who you are and what is important to you.
All applications will be read and evaluated. Finalists will be invited to interview on the University of Washington Seattle campus in late June. Notification of scholarship awards will be made in mid-summer.
